LUKE HAYWARD

ABOUT

My brother and sister influenced my musical direction at an early age, as did my mother. The Rolling Stones were on all the time. I pretty much wanted to be Mick Jagger. CCR, John Mayall, The Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, The Police, Gladys Night and the Pips, Roberta Flack, and the Great Jimi Hendrix all inspired me to pursue music. I got into Led Zeppelin later at the Roxy Theatre. In junior high, I got into metal listening to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Van Halen. Then Lou Reed, The Violent Femmes, and on into Grunge. I loved Layne Staley. Trip hop and Shoegaze followed after that.

My life changed when I discovered Jane’s Addiction. Never before had I run into an act that mixed and crossed so many genres so seamlessly, and with such originality and virtuosity. They displayed fierce male energy one minute, which would soften into the female vernacular the next. I watched them sound check for the whole day once in a television studio, and didn’t leave my seat. They made beautiful, important and influential music that is still fresh and relevant today. Why the original lineup can’t continue, is a shame. The first live album, and the first two studio albums are seminal works of art that create joy, hope and at the same time, a little uneasiness.

I live in Toronto with my wife and two daughters, where I write and record music.

WRITINGS

I lived in London England for 10 years and experienced many highs and lows. We moved to Toronto with our young family to be closer to blood. To cope with this change, I started writing real life stories about my time there, and have composed a collection that I will be posting here on Lukehayward.net. Enjoy!!

BIO

Luke is a Toronto born singer/songwriter/voiceover talent who has spent years learning many aspects of the music business. From playing drums since the age of 12, he absorbed how to sing, perform and write music. Amateur touring of Canada and the US gave way to singing, session work, and becoming a frontman in Canada, and in London, England.

Also in the UK, he gained experience behind the scenes as a local London stage stage tech/roadie.The stepping stones of rock and roll, music television, corporate, and the rave scene, all led to a greater understanding of how the music entertainment industry really worked. From the BBC to Abbey Road Studios, from ugly realizations to euphoric epiphanies, nothing was left to chance, as talent, hard work, dedication, sharp social skills, sobriety and lots of luck cemented success for artists.

From Rock to Disco, Funk, to Electro Pop and beyond, his imagination is as strong as ever, and fuels original compositions to fit any project, artist, radio, film or television spot.
