It’s rare to run into anyone you know in London, except when you are in your own neighbourhood, or if you are near your workplace. It is a massive place, full of people coming and going. The tube is definitely not a place you expect to look for a familiar face. You are just trying to escape the dungeon and its pitfalls.
One day on the Circle/District Line, I got on at Westminster and scanned the car for a seat. Much to my amazement, my girlfriend ( now my wife ), was sitting in the middle of a bank of seats staring off into space. Just trying to make sense of her day, and get home. She didn’t see me initially, so I slowly walked over and knelt down beside her, and touched her knee. She was so surprised and happy at this chance meeting! People that noticed me kneeling , blushed, and thought either I was really good at pulling women, or that I was proposing. It was a rare and memorable moment that we talk about to this day.
